Donations to our Every Step Counts appeal were matched by the UK government from 18th April to 18th July 2016. This opportunity has now ended, however you can still donate to support disabled and injured people: Please donate today

What is match funding?

Match funding, or ‘UK Aid Match’ is a scheme run by the UK government's Department for International Development that pledges some of the UK's aid budget to the international development causes that the public directly supports. The UK government will match, pound for pound, public donations to charities which tackle poverty in developing countries, therefore doubling the impact of your donations.

What steps can I take to get involved?

1. Donate today to have your donation doubled.
2. Organise your own Every Step Counts sponsored challenge or event – we have a great little pack to help you! Order your fundraising pack here
3. Get work colleagues involved. Why not organise a dress down Friday or a yummy bake sale? Order your fundraising pack here
4. Spread the word about the campaign on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #everystep.
5. Sign up for email updates and share them with your friends.

Where does my money go?

Your donation will go to countries where we provide disabled people with essential rehabilitation care, including Nepal, Jordan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Where will UK Aid match funding go?

The matched funding provided by the UK government will support Handicap International’s rehabilitation projects in Nepal and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Will all donations be matched?

All donations made by UK residents between 18th April and 18th July 2016 will be matched. For the purposes of this campaign, the UK includes Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.

If you are organising a fundraising event, all activities must take place between 18th April and 18th July 2016 to be eligible for matching.

Will the UK Government match the Gift Aid on donations?

No, only the donation itself will be matched because Gift Aid is the government’s scheme enabling us to reclaim the tax you’ve already paid. But please make sure you sign a Gift Aid form when you donate – it’s an extra 25 per cent at no extra cost to you or Handicap International UK!

Will Direct Debits be matched?

The UK government will match the first three monthly payments of all new Direct Debits and the increase on an existing Direct Debit, but they have to be set up between 18th April and 18th July 2016.

Will donations from private companies be matched?

These donations are not eligible for matching. However, an individual from the company can of course donate and their gift will be matched. Or you can organise a fundraising event at work – if you are interested in raising funds with your colleagues, just order our free fundraising action pack.
