Handicap International has had a presence in the Middle East since 1987.
In a region beset by chronic crises and political instability, Handicap International promotes the participation of people with disabilities in the social and political life of the region, and supports access for all to appropriate services, whatever the context.
Regional projects
 | Disability Monitor Initiative (DMI) An advocacy initiative which aims to gather and disseminate information on disability in the Middle East. The objectives are to build up knowledge on the situation of persons with disabilities and to examine best practices, especially at the community level. This will serve as a tool for reporting on critical issues affecting people with disabilities in the region and support stakeholders with information. It will also help build regional networks between disabled people’s organisations, service providers, public authorities and international organisations. |
 | Building the capacity of disabled people’s organisations (DPOs) Strengthening the capacity of local, regional and national DPOs, enabling them to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities and engage with public authorities and other key stakeholders in the development and implementation of policies on the inclusion of people with disabilities. Activities include providing training, supporting regional exchange and coordination between DPOs, and researching and disseminating good practices. |
