Supporting our local partners - Vida Brasil
 © Handicap International |
Handicap International has been active in Brazil since 1993, when it set up a food education project in the disadvantaged neighbourhoods of Fortaleza, the state capital of Ceara. Handicap International also helped to set up the first public orthopaedic workshop in Brazil, in Salvador Bahia, as well as a community-based rehabilitation programme (CBR).
In 1996, Handicap International supported the creation of a Brazilian NGO Vida Brasil (Support for the Individual and Active Development) in the northeast of the country in Salvador and Fortaleza. Handicap International no longer has a programme in Brazil and instead works through Vida Brasil. Its mission is to "promote and strengthen socially vulnerable and excluded individuals and groups through education and participation to help develop a sustainable, inclusive and democratic society."
