Following cyclone Nargis, which struck Burma in May 2008, Handicap International carried out a mission to evaluate the needs of the local population.

According to estimates, around 130,000 people were killed or missing following the passage of the cyclone, and around 2.5 million people were seriously affected.

The after-effects of the disaster are still visible and there is still a huge amount of reconstruction work to do. Handicap International set up an emergency mission in the country aiming to support people with disabilities.
