Since 1992, Handicap International has provided assistance to a network of local stakeholders operating in the field of disability in Togo. Our activities in Togo include providing support for orthopaedic material and physiotherapy centres; promoting speech therapy; providing support for disability associations and promoting the rights of people with disabilities.

Our Activities

A project improving the management of the national Buruli Ulcer programme, adapting physiotherapy services towards prevention and care management, and developing an effective monitoring and notification system for detected cases.

Increasing availability of speech therapy sessions and setting up a clinic in the Tourkoin teaching hospital in Lomé, supporting the professional inclusion of young speech therapists, increasing awareness of speech therapy

• Enhancing the knowledge of rehabilitation stakeholders in relation to the rehabilitation rights of people with disabilities
• Improving accessibility and availability of rehabilitation services for people with disabilities in the Savanes region, and women in particular.
• Empower rehabilitation facilities in the maritime regions of Atakpamé and the Savanes region to offer long-term adapted services.
• Improving the knowledge of institutional and operational stakeholders in relation to care management for disabled children in Lomé.

A project to ensure the long-term future of the National School of Medical Auxiliaries. Quality teaching is now provided in three rehabilitation-related departments: physiotherapy, orthopaedics and speech therapy, and the viability of these three departments is being improved.
