Haiti earthquake response
February 2010
Following the catastrophic earthquake in January that left 300,000 people injured in Haiti, Handicap International continues to provide aid and care, whilst planning its long-term action in Haiti.
To cope with the considerable number of amputations having taken place in Haiti, our team has set up a temporary orthopaedic and prosthetic workshop. Handicap International has also been entrusted by the UN the mission of coordinating, across the whole country, the rehabilitation of injured people, the fitting of orthopaedic devices and the provision of assistance to people with disabilities, together with the German organisation, CBM (Christian Blind Mission).
