Mine clearance

Handicap international strives to clear landmines, cluster munitions and other unexploded ordnance from post-conflict zones so that the land can be returned to local communities, allowing people can go about their daily lives without fear of accident.

Depending on the terrain and the context in which our teams are operating, various techniques are used to clear areas of land that have been mined or that are strewn with unexploded devices. This may involve teams of deminers with detection devices, specially trained sniffer dogs, or remote controlled 'Tempest' machines to clear vegetation in lower risk areas.
