New guide to fundraising with young people

20th September 2010, Publications

This month sees the launch of a new set of guidelines for good practice in fundraising with young people, developed in conjunction with the Development Education Association (DEA), of which Handicap International UK is a member.

DEA brought together a group of twelve charities involved in development and humanitarian action, including Handicap International UK, Oxfam, CAFOD, Unicef, and British Red Cross, to develop and highlight our shared understanding of good practice in fundraising with young people. Together, we believe that involvement in fundraising activities can be motivating and fun for young people, as well as supporting charities in their work. Such experiences also have huge educational potential to develop young people's understanding and skills as active, responsible citizens, allowing them to engage with underlying issues, consider a range of ways to effect change and carry out safe, effective fundraising.

The document ‘Unlocking the educational potential of fundraising activities: Guidelines for good practice in fundraising with young people' highlights and details these principles.
