Knock Knock!
Handicap International UK is currently running a door-to-door fundraising campaign to raise money for its overseas projects. This specific campaign is running from 13th June to 7th August 2011. Our fundraisers are calling at homes across Greater London and Peterborough, giving people the chance to find out about our work and pledge a regular gift.
We’re working in partnership with Care2Give and our trained fundraisers are calling door to door, asking for your support to help amputees walk again, prevent tragic accidents caused by landmines and cluster munitions and provide emergency aid to disabled and vulnerable people in the aftermath of a disaster.
Handicap International is an international aid organisation working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. We work alongside disabled and vulnerable people in over 60 countries worldwide.
Over the course of a year, £10 per month could provide four amputees with an artificial limb, enabling them to walk again.
How to recognise our fundraisers?
The fundraisers will be knocking on doors across Greater London and Peterborough. They’ll be working Monday to Friday, from 12 to 8pm, and on Saturdays from 12 to 5:30pm.
The fundraisers will not take cash donations on the doorsteps but instead ask people to set up a regular donation by direct debit.
You’ll be able to recognise that they are from Handicap International UK by their ID badges, which display the Care2Give logo and the fundraisers ID number and Handicap International tabards. If you are unsure whether someone is a genuine Handicap International fundraiser please ask to see their ID badge. If you are still concerned please ring the Care2Give Helpdesk on 0800 840 7220 or email supportercare@hi-uk.org.
Why do we use this as a method of fundraising?
This method of fundraising is a very efficient and cost effective way of generating income and attracting new supporters to Handicap International UK. Individual donations are hugely important to us and vital for us to continue our work.
Direct Debit is also a cost-effective way to donate as it allows us to keep our administrative costs to a minimum and the length of the commitment helps us to plan ahead and budget effectively.
Door-to-Door fundraising means we can speak with you in person about the vital work we do with disabled and vulnerable people and, in turn, we can answer any questions you may have.
What do the fundraisers ask for?
The fundraisers ask members of the public to pledge regular donations to Handicap International UK by Direct Debit and are not authorised to accept any other means of payments in the way of a donation (cash, cheques etc.).
Do you have permission to fundraise in my area?
Before we fundraise in any area we always get permission from the relevant local authority.
Is this type of fundraising regulated?
The Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA) is a self-regulating body that is dedicated to ensure high standards of quality, transparency and integrity in this type of fundraising.
They regulate fundraising activities used by charities and professional fundraising organisations and enforce a Code of Practice, which aims to make certain that peoples’ experience of this type of fundraising is positive.
Handicap International UK closely monitors its campaigns to ensure that their representatives adhere to the regulations and Codes of Practice set out by the Institute of Fundraising and Public Fundraising Regulatory Association. For more information, visit the PRFA website.
