Promote Inclusion in Rwanda

Play your part to End Exclusion

Provide quality Education for All

Handicap International is pleased to announce the news of a groundbreaking trip taking place this spring to Rwanda. Aiming to raise awareness and understanding of cross-cultural approaches to inclusive education, ‘Inclusion Rwanda’ is looking for ten teachers, headteachers, other teaching personnel and specialists working with disabled children from across the UK to work with local teachers and disabled children in Rwandan schools for one week.

The aim of ‘Inclusion Rwanda’ is for UK participants to work in local mainstream and special schools, alongside local teaching staff. Working closely with their Rwandan counterparts, the participants will share teaching, learning and communication methods, whilst learning about approaches to Inclusive Education in a developing country. This experience will also be a great opportunity to further your career and could be part of your professional development.

UK participants will be working with Handicap International’s partner schools which are located in and around the capital city Kigali.

Rwandan teachers will benefit from the specialised expertise of the UK participants. The project also aims to foster links between UK and Rwandan schools, helping to raise awareness on disability, education and development issues at home and abroad.

* Due to popular request, Inclusion Rwanda will now take place from the 24th to 31st May 2008. Handicap International UK was contacted by many potential participants who were keen to take part in this once in a life time event but who were not available during the April Easter holiday period. After serious consideration and collaboration with a number of potential participating schools and our Rwandan partners the event will now take place in May to maximise the impact of the project.
