Primary health care is based on the use of appropriate technology and methodologies, made universally accessible to individuals and communities through their full participation and at low cost.
Population's health is determined by non-medical factors that the community can control through collaborating with other sectors (e.g. agriculture, water and sanitation, education). Tackling health issues is no longer solely the responsibility of doctors and nurses. Communities have a great role to play.
Handicap International has developed community-based health projects in several countries where activities of health centres have been planned through decision processes where both health professionals and families are involved. |
