Handicap International is involved throughout the world in the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL). Handicap International and 5 other organisations launched this Campaign in 1992 and were consequently awarded the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize. The Campaign currently includes more than 1400 members based in 90 different countries. In a very short period of time, the ICBL has succeeded in pressing the governments of around 150 countries to sign the Ottawa Treaty.

Encouraged by this success, Handicap International is genuinely committed to influencing the stance taken by international policies on landmines and cluster bombs.
