- the development of rehabilitation services: orthopaedic workshops providing artificial limb fitting and other support devices like orthosis, combined with physical rehabilitation care (e.g. physiotherapy)
- the support for the development of rehabilitation services into national health and social systems through the establishment of professionals’ networks
For this reason, Handicap International became involved in: - Gaining recognition for the training and status of new professionals
- The issues regarding management of services including cost-recovery schemes
- The choice of appropriate technologies adapted to each context
- Establishing temporary prosthesis production facilities in emergency situations alongside ongoing thoughts about technology and know-how transfer and support to local facilities.
