You are here: Our projects > Where we work > Middle East regional office The current situation in the Middle East remains difficult. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, war in Iraq, and tensions in Syria are aggravating an already weak regional economical situation. All economic sectors are affected, especially tourism, the main source of income of many countries in the region. And yet nothing short of a comprehensive solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict could bring long-term peace and deep change to the region. Nonetheless, in all these countries, civil society is trying to face up by organizing itself through associations or civil movements. These initiatives need to be supported and developed. BACKGROUND Present in the region since 1987, Handicap International has run and supported many projects in the field of disability in Lebanon, Egypt and the Palestinian Territories. Handicap International Middle East Office was opened in April 2002. Based in Amman (Jordan), it is Handicap International’s representative in these three countries. STRATEGY Handicap International aims to support local non governmental organisations working in the fields of rehabilitation and psychosocial assistance. Our role is to bring technical training assistance and organisational support to these organisations. ACTIVITIES Our Middle East Office is in charge of the management and monitoring of all our programmes in the Lebanon, the Palestinian Occupied Territories and Egypt.
