Handicap International is a partner in Source, an international information support centre designed to strengthen the management, use and impact of information on health and disability.

Visit the Source website to access:

  • Source bibliographic database, which holds details of a unique collection of over 20,000 health and disability information resources, including books, manuals, reports, posters, videos and CD-Roms. Many materials are from developing countries.
  • Source key lists, which highlight key resources such as websites, newsletters, reports, cd-roms, books and e-mail forums relating to specific topics. They offer a targeted sample of the many more resources available by searching the Source databases.
  • Source contacts database, which allows you to search for organisations - including publishers, distributors, information providers and training organisations - working in health and disability worldwide.
  • Source newsletters database, which holds details of over 150 international newsletters, magazines and journals which are available free or at low cost to readers in developing countries, including links to the full-text of the newsletter where possible.

HealthLink have developed a new database on the Source website, www.asksource.info -- called "Distributors".

This database allows users to identify organisations which distribute information resources for free or at low cost -- something we are constantly asked to do. 99 distributors were selected by the following criteria:

  • Cover the practice, management and / or communication of health and disability in developing countries
  • Use accessible language rather than complex technical terminology
  • Can be used for training, educational purposes, and / or as practical reference material
  • Are designed or adaptable for use in developing countries
  • Are available free or at a low cost
  • Are available internationally and to a large audience
