A forgotten crisis on an immense scale

The conflict in Sudan has created a massive crisis across the region: 25 million people are in need of humanitarian aid and protection, more than 10 million have been displaced from their homes, and almost 15,000 people have lost their lives.

Sadly, it is the most vulnerable, especially people with disabilities, who are the hardest hit.

Our teams in Chad and Egypt are working hard to support disabled and vulnerable people, by providing physical rehabilitation services, mental health support and access to humanitarian aid. Without this vital support, the huge needs in these areas are barely covered, if at all.

We are also launching activities inside Sudan with a partner organisation, and working to strengthen local health systems and build the capacity of local NGOs to respond.

With your help, we can provide desperately-needed rehabilitation care to people who have been injured, as well as support for people with disabilities, who would otherwise be abandoned.

Supporting the most vulnerable people

Our teams are working tirelessly to support people affected by the ongoing crisis in Sudan, but we really need your support.

Together, we can provide:

Rehabilitation for injured and disabled people
We are providing desperately-needed rehabilitation care in hospitals and via mobile teams in camps for people who have sustained injuries like amputations, burns and spinal cord injuries.
Mental health and psychosocial support
We are supporting people who have lived through violence and traumatic experiences, as well as those who are coming to terms with life-changing injuries.
Access to humanitarian aid
We are working to ensure that vulnerable and disabled people can access the aid they need, including mobility aids like wheelchairs, crutches and walkers. And our Atlas Logistics teams are running warehouses to store and transport vital aid for a wide range of international and local NGOs.

“Time and again in conflicts and disasters we see that the needs of the most vulnerable, especially people with disabilities, are overlooked or forgotten.”

“In the informal camps surrounding the town of Adré in Eastern Chad, I met countless people with bullet wounds, as well as amputees, people with paralysis, and those with intellectual disabilities. The harsh reality is that the specific needs of these people are simply not being met.”

“One young woman, Nawali, was stuck in a small, stuffy makeshift shelter in the informal camp. Paralysed since childhood, she only went outside to drag herself 20 metres across the ground to reach the toilet, which itself was totally inaccessible for a person in her situation. It was painful to watch this educated young woman who had an active, independent life in Sudan, having to live in such degrading conditions.”
